Nanaimo Silly Boat Regatta 2023

May the silliest boat win!

The Nanaimo Silly Boat Regatta has been part of the city’s waterfront community for more than 20 years, bringing local businesses, families, and volunteers together for a playful but meaningful cause. Organized in support of the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, the event helps raise funds for programs that support children with developmental needs and disabilities, as well as their families.

For the 2023 edition, I wanted to help capture the spirit of an event that feels very Nanaimo: creative, chaotic, generous, and deeply community-driven. Behind the ridiculous homemade boats and the race across the bay at Maffeo Sutton Park is a simple and important goal: helping the Nanaimo CDC continue its work with children and families across the region.
